รายละเอียด / Details:

The objecttives of study were to develop a screening method for high-risk groups of substance use in high school students by using indirect indicators, inappropriate behaviors in school, as criterion and to analyze process of the mothod. The study site was a high school in Ubonratchathani province, by purposive selection, between May 1998-March 1999. Target populations were all students in this school. Observation of such behaviors, records, and reports were done by teachers who were the advisors. Data collection was done by focus group discussion (among teachers), self-report (high-risk students) and the amount and completion of records. Then, the data were analyzed by content analysis method and in term of percentage. The results of study revealed that the process of screening method was clearly defined, though there were some problems in observation. There were 237 high-risk students 8.3% in the school. Data from 162 high risk students answering self report 79.6% (129 student) experienced in using substances namely: alcohol 74% cigarette 50.6% amphetamine 14.8% hypnotic 6.8% cannabis 4.3 inhalant 1.9% We suggested that this screening method might be benefit for substance use surveillance in high school and could be done in real-life situation. The suggestion for further study is comparison between high-risk students and the other students.
