The objective of this cross sectional survey was to study the family crisis and associationbetween family crisis, child rearing and development of pre-school and school chirldren in four areas of Thailand : Burirum, Saraburi and Bangkok. 238 pre-school, 338 school children with their parents were surveyed during March to September 2002. Denver II and Progressive matrices were used to screen the development of these children .The analysis of family crisis and their association with child rearing and development were done by using percentage and chi-square test. The results showed 37.8 percent of the family of pre-school and school children had family crisis, Family crisis was statistically significant association with child rearing and development of pre-school children (p‹0.05). Children lived in family with family crisis had higher proportion of poor supportive rearing and suspected delay development than children who lived in family without the crisis. While the school children did not show statistically significant association between family crisis and child rearing and development. This results indicated that family crisis affects child rearing and development of pre-school children.
