Objective : To investigate the level of emotional intelligence of medical students in different dimensions and to determine the correlation between the level of medical student' stress and their emotional intelligence. Methods : The level of emotional intelligence and stress were evaluated by using the emotional intelligent assessment scales. The subjects were also evaluated by using the self-assessment and analysis of stress for Thai people. The means and standard deviations of emotional intelligence and stress levels were calculated. The correlation between the levels of emotional intelligence and stress was also examined. Results: Most of the medical students had a high level of emotional intelligence 3.75 and a normal level of stress. The levels of emotional intelligence and stress were negatively correlated in all dimension of emotional intelligence r=0.352. The coefficients of correlation between dimensions of self-awareness, self-regulation, social skill empathy and stress were also negative r=0.367, 0.385, 0.353, and 0.204, respectively Conclusions: The results that medical students with a lower level of emotional intelligence tend to be more stressed, while those with high emotional intelligence tend to have a normal level of stress. Based on these findings, it is recommended that emotional intelligence skills of medical students should be evaluated and promoted to help those with a low level of emotional intelligence reduce the level of stress and improve their learning and adaptation abilities
