รายละเอียด / Details:

The purposes of this study were (1) to identify the level of stress management behaviors among Thai Muslim high-school adolescents in three border provinces in southern Thailand, and (2) to examine factors influencing stress management behaviors. Prior related behaviors, self-efficacy, situational influences, religious practices and perceived stress were included as criterion variables in this study. Two hundred and seventy two subjects were selected by cluster sampling method in both governmental and religious high schools in Pattani, narathiwat and Yala Provinces. Six instruments: Stress management Behaviors questionnaire, Prior related Behaviors questionnaire, Self-efficacy questionnaire, Situational influences questionnaire, Religious Practice questionnaire and The Cohen's Perceived Stress Scale were used in this study. All six instruments were tested for internal consistency. The cronbach alpha values were .80, .76, .89, .71, .89, and .78 respectively. The study found that (1) Thai Muslim high-school adolescents had a mean total score of stress management behaviors and mean of all three subscales at moderate level; (2) self-efficacy, prior related behaviors, and religious practice positively influenced stress management behaviors among Thai Muslim high-school adolescents in three border provinces in southern Thailand. All three variables explained 48% of the variance in stress management behaviors. Self-efficacy was the most powerful influencing variable. Situational influences and perceived stress could not predict stress management behaviors in these subjects. Findings from this study suggest that Thai Muslim high-school adolescents could be improve their stress management behaviors. Health care providers should enhance adolescents' perception of their competencies, enhance their positive stress managementbehaviors since childhood and encourage adolescents to use religious practice in stress management.
