This study was to investigate clinical data and EEG results of patients attending the EEG unit of Srithanya Hospital between 2002-2004.78 digital EEG recordings were analyzed. There were 60% male. 28% were diagnosed of epilepsy and schizophrenia at the same figure. Reasin for EEG recording was to exclude or confirm epilepsy at 55%. EEG analysis showed positive activity at 25.6% and dysrhythmic activities at 24.4%. History of head injury and history of seizure were not significant risks to yield abnormal EEG results (OR=0.6,1.5,95% CI 0.2-2.1, 0.6-3.9 respectively). EEG results did not significantly affect treatment plan either (OR=0.9,95% CI 0.3-2.4). In conclusion, EEG in tertiary psychiatric hospital yielded positive results and affected treatment plan only a few patients. Indication for EEG investigation in psychiatric setting was discussed.
