The objective of this study is to survey quality of life (QOL) among Thai people during the economic recovery phase. The population were randomized selected cover nationwide between May-August 2003.Questionnaires were demographic form and abbreviated version of WHO Quality of Life questionnaire (WHOQOL-BREF) were applied. Statistical analysis was Chi-square, Linear regression, one-way ANOVA and ANCOVA. Results showed that there were 11,688 samples consisted of 49.6% women, 50.4% men and average age 34.7+-11.7 years old. Most (50%) had primary level of education and earned their living as either farmers or labors 48.2% with average income of 4,314+-5,016 baht per month. There was a significant difference between region in age, education, job, income and marital status. Factors related to high QOL significantly were being of female gender, higher income, having education higher than primary level, married and agriculturists. Factors related to low QOL significantly wer being of male gender, order age, having primary level education and laborers, QOL, in overall, was found to be at high level for 17.1% and at poor level for 1.7% of the sample with an average score of 87.17+-9.7. The social relationship domain of QOL was at high level 32.3%, followed by the environment 29.3%, psychological 18.9% and physical domain 5.2%, respectively. There was a significant difference between regions in overall and in 4 domains of QOL score. Bangkok Metropolitan had significantly lower QOL score in all aspect than other regions. In conclusion physical and psychological domains should predominantly improved by Health Thailand Policy. QOL survey at regular interval would beneficial in monitoring and providing information for development planning.
