รายละเอียด / Details:

The objective of this descriptive study was to determine knowledge, opinion and practice of health worker volunteers toward community mental helath in Singburi. Questionnaires were sent to 320 trained health workers and 320 untrained health workers, and the researcher received a response rate of 99.22%. Results were analyzed by using mean, percentage and t-test. The results showed that the majority of respondents were women (70.1%) with an average age of 45.4 years, 61.6% graduated form primary school, spent an average time of 8.8 years working as volunteers, and 49.6% of the respondents are health worker volunteers trained on issues of community mental health. The statistical difference between the trained and untrained group was calculated at (p‹0.05) in mean score of knowledge. Both groups, however, need more knowledge on how to give practical advice when caring for and helping patients as well as in ways needed to improve mental health. There were no significance differences between the trained and untrained group in the mean score of their overall opinion and practice. However, there was statistical difference (p<0.05) in the mean score of the health worker volunteers' perception on their role. Health worker volunteers gave the first rank to making themselves an example for improving attitude towards health and the acquisition of more knowledge. The study indicated that we should allow health worker volunteers a chance to expand their knowledge in cases where they have not received an ongoing education in community mental health and lend support by allowing them to actively practice their skills. It is suggested that refresher courses be arranged for them once a year. In addition, there should be more emphasis on practical training than on theory as well in evaluating what is needed. The primary emphasis in on knowledge and then practice with an emphasis on real-life problems.
