รายละเอียด / Details:

This study was aimed to estimate the attributable fraction of obesity that effects a burden of diseases in Thai population. The outcome of the study will contribute to a guideline for risk factors prioritization in the country. The inter ASIA that was a secondary data and a health populationsurvey in the year 2000 was used for analyzing by using the world health organization method to estimate the attributable fraction of this study. Thailand now, confronting with the increasing of overweight and obesity at the prevalence rate of 30 percent and 9 percent (from the Inter ASIA survey) while Europe and America afe 27 percent. The obesity attributable fraction output of this study showed that female bore more burden of disease (DALYs=YLL+YLD) than male, the burden of diseases from obesity attributable fraction was diabetes 49%, hypertension 26% and ischaemic heart disease 14%. Whereas in female the burden of disease was diabetes 67%, hypertension 34% and endometrium cancer 33%. The total impact of Disability Adjusted Life Years from the overweight and obesity for both sex was 3.8 percent, while female had a greater total impact of Disability Adjusted Life Years from the overweight and obesity than male. It was 122,684 years/100,000 in male 2.2% and 236,430 years/100,000 in female 6%. This study found that the impact from obesity to burden of disease in Thailand was ischaemic heart and cerebrovascular disease. The caution is that the percentage of obesity impact for cerebrovascular disease is low but the percentage of hypertension which is the major risk factor of stroke is high in Thai population. To control overweight and obesity depend on consumer behavior and environment. Strategic planning should take into account to the co-incidence of risk factors and obesity is included as one of the main risk factors. The obesity control is composed of the management and research for obesity prevention and control in the areas of, for example health cost, life course approach, health promotion.
