รายละเอียด / Details:

This study was aimed to retrospectively assess the health problems of irregular migrant workers from Myanma, Lao PDR and Cambodia working in Bangkok and were legally registered for health care at the BMA General Hospital in 2003. Employing descriptive statistic and chi-square, the study was conducted during April-August, 2004. It included 3,475 irregular migrant workers, of whom 72.8 percent were female. It was found that 1.3 percent were infected with tuberculosis and 1.2 percent with syphilis. Amphetamine in urine was reported in 0.3 percent of them while 2.4 percent were pregnant. The study also revealed the fact that 97.8 percent of those who were infected with tuberculosis were neither sufficiently treated nor given proper medical attention. As for the case of syphilis, 75.6 percent of the workers who were infected with the disease were still not properly treated. It is suggested that further medical treatment as well as public health measures are needed to attend to their health problems.
