This paper presents the accuracy of treatment of patients with sexually transmitted diseases in region 2 in 2001. A total of 324 STD cases from 31 STD units (227 cases) and 49 public hosptails (97 cases) were reviewed. The majority of cases were in sexually active age with a median of years. Half 51.2% of then were male. The proportion of prostitutes treated in STD units was significantly higher than those in the hospitals. The most common disease reported from STD units was gonorrhea 71.8% whereas syphilis was most commonly diagnosed in the hospitals 57.1%. The accuracy of STD treatment was 75.8 percent for the STD units and 63.6 percent for the hospitals. The proportion of gonorrhea patients receiving proper treatment was significantly higher in STD units than the hospitals. Only 21.0 percent of cases had follow-up examination. Standard STD management should be regularly given to health care providers. Monitoring of the accuracy of STD treatment in health care centers is essential.
