Universal Health care coverage was implemented at a nationwide scale since fiscal year 2002. As this is a national scheme, there is a need to generate evidence for policy amendment in order to achieve the goals of the scheme effectively. This article proposed and discussed six areas of major research questions need attention by researchers and concerned stakeholders. This included 1) ability of the scheme to achieve its goals, 2) scheme management and health service delivery systems, 3) payment mechanism and responses by health care providers, 4) impact on population 5) impact on health systems as a whole 6) political dimension-both proponents and opponents of the scheme. Development of an effective research policy interface mechanism is as important as capacity to answer these questions.
