รายละเอียด / Details:

The main purpose of this study was to compare aphasia screening test between neurological deficit patients and normal subjects. The secondary purpose was to investigate the limitation and application of this test compared to those used in other countries. The subjects consisted of 77 neurological disorder patients and 75 normal subjects. The instrument used in this was Reitan-Indiana Aphasia Screening Test Battery form for Adults which is one subtest of Halstead-Reitan Neuropsychological test battery. This test composed of 32 questions which related to naming objects that seen in daily lives, simple words, pictures, mathematics questions. Subjects were required to naming objects that seen in daily lives, simple words, pictures, mathematics questions. Subjects were required to express their understanding in the objects, explain the simple words, write and read the words, calculate the basic mathematic problems, draw simple pictures, and recognize the body side. The scores of patients who had brain lesion in the left or the right side 55 patients were significantly different to those of epilepsy 22 patients and normal subjects 75 subjects at p,0.01. There were no significant differences between brain impaired patients at the left side and the right side and also between epileptic and normal subjects. Furthermore, differences in the education level could lead to the score of this test. Aphasia screening test battery form for adults, a subset of halstead-reitan Neuropsychological test battery, can be used to differentiate between patients with the left or right side brain lesion from epileptic patients and normal subjects. The precaution in using is that levels of education may influence the scores.
