Various beverages in closed containers have been popularly marketed and consumed nationwide. The regional Medical Sciences Center, Khon Khaen had examined 203 samples of the beverages during September 1996-October 2002. Excessive amounts of two kinds of preservative benzoic acid and sorbic acid were reported in 7.39 percent of the total samples. In addition, synthetic colors were excessively used in 2.46 percent and chemical dyes could be found in 0.99 percent of them.
