There are various resource allocation methods for psychiatric services. The study reviewed resource allocation in government health sector using psychiatric patient classification and measurement of psychiatric patients conditions. Swedish experiences on Diagnosis Related groups DRG, state Related groups SRG and Australian experiences on the Australian National Sub-Acute and Non-Acute classification (AN-SNAP), and Mental Health Classification and service costs (MH-CASC) are presented. The review recommends further research on case mix of psychiatric patients to come up with appropriate option of resource allocation in psychiatric services.
