Clinical laboratories were responsible for analyses of bio-sspecimens in order to provide crucial clue for diagnosis and treatment. As such, the results should be accurate, precise reliable. Continuing quality assurance program becomes, therefore, critical and technical support had been provided by Regional Medical Sciences Center, Suratthani to clinical laboratories in the region during the period November 2001 to June 2002. Its outcome in 17 community hospitals was assessed in an interview of their staff and the results shown in percentage. In terms of capacity building in proficiency testing on 6 parameters before and after the program, the change from 46.1 percent tp 61.5 percent was observed. Calibration of hematocrit centrifuge increased 17.7 percent and that for automatic pipette climbed up 11.8 percent. Yet there was no standard operating procedure set in all of the 30 parameters eventhough all clinical laboratories adopted international standard and were progressive in quality assurance.
