Day Hospital, a therapeutic program for psychiatric patients, has certain well-integrated, concentrated and mixed-up methods performed by a group of multidisciplinary personnels during daytime. The program commenced in russia in order to reduce crowding of psychiatric in-patients.It was officially founded for the first time in Canada and then expanded all over the world. The first Day Hospital in Thailand was at Somdetchaopraya Hospital with continuous development of treatment programs. Its effectiveness is not different from in-patient treatment. About one-third of patients supposed to be treated as in patients can be treated at Day Hospital instead, and with much lower cost. Besides, there are no absolute contraindications for day hospital treatment. Therefore, day hospital should be founded in psychiatric hospitals and then in communities.
