The main objectives of this study were to measure hospital workload and determinate manpower requirement in Nakornratchasima Rajanagarindra Psychiatric Hospital'(300 beds). Hospital activites were studied and grouped into 17 major tasks as nursing tasks, Psychiatric community, Psychology, Medical technology, Dentistry, Physician, Pharmacy, Hospital education, Psychiatric social welfare, Occupational therapy, Monetary and inventory, General management, Public relation, Planning and information technology, Nutrition, Hospital quality, and Beneficial right. The hospital tasks wer divides to the smallest activities calle elements which were performed by operators. Then, standard time, workload, and manapower requirement in hospital setting were measured in one year period of 2004. The standard time which was the time required to perform each defined element of hospital works was determined by Expert opinion standard technique and accepted by representatives of operators, supervisors, and administrators of the hospital. The workload was measured by multiplying the standard time with the number of work unit of element performed in one year period (2004). The results showed that the workload of hospital operators were 791,873.6 man-hour. The numbers of required hospital staffs were 435 persons. But there were the number of staffs only 327 persons. The workload indicator of staff need was also shown under value of 1 (as 0.8) which indicated that there was the lack of the number of operators performed hospital tasks. However, these numbers of staffs were still on duty in hospital with the performance rating of hospital staffs as 133.0%.
