The purpose of this study is to compare the effectiveness between ethyl loflazepate and placebo on patient who had a DSM-IV diagnosis of panic disorder. Twenty-one patients were randomly selected to enter a 4-week double-blind placebo controlled crossover trial. The efficacy of drug was assessed by panic score, Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale, and Hamilton Depression Rating Scale. The evaluation was done by both the patient and the doctor. Analysis of the results showed statistically significant effectiveness of ethyl loflazepate against panic disorder compare to placebo (p ‹ 0.05). Because this drug has rapid onset and minimal side effect, it can be another drug of choice in the treatment of panic disorder.
