This study develops the five-scale test of self-esteem for children (FSC), Thai version, as an assessment various areas of self- esteem in Thai children. Method The Children's Depression Inventory (CDI) and Rosenberg’s Self-Esteem Scale(RSE) were used as a gold standard instrument. Subjects which consisted of 408 children aged 10-17 years filled out the FSC, CDI and RSE . Statistical analysis was performed to test the validity and internal consistency of the scale which consists of academic, body, family, social, and global area . Results The internal consistencies were good (Cronbach's alpha coefficient = 0.60-0.78) and each subscale score has significantly correlated with RSE and CDI score. Conclusion The result reveals the Thai version of FSC has satisfied validity and reliability. Self-esteem assessment in multidimensional area can detect the problem in children more accurate than assess subject as a whole. So the FSC is a practical instrument to assess various areas of self- esteem and to follow-up the improvement after intervention in Thai children.
