The readmission rate and the length of hospitalization of 54 schizophrenic patients were compared between one year before and after the program. Results Since Department of Mental Health in Thailand accepted the PRELAPSE program, it was first implemented as a pilot study in five mental hospitals i.e. Somdet Chaopraya Hospital, Srithunya Hospital, Saun-Prung Hospital, Khon-Kaen Psychiatric Hospital, and Suansaranrom Psychiatric Hospital. Of the 54 schizophrenic patients, the readmission rate decreased 44.4 %, with 50% readmitted the same number of times as last year. Length of hospital stay decreased for 50% of these patients while 42.59% remained the same as last year. Conclusion The pilot PRELAPSE program reduced the relapse rate of schizophrenic patients in Thailand. Based on the results of this pilot study, we recommend extending the PRELAPSE program.
