รายละเอียด / Details:

Objective To evaluate antipsychotic dosing patterns in chronic schizophrenic patients over a 10-year interval. Method A retrospective study conducted in Somdet Chaopraya Hospital evaluating the antipsychotic dosing patterns in 199 schizophrenic patients who attended the outpatient clinic from 1988 to 1998. Results The mean daily dose of antipsychotic drug in schizophrenic patients decreased significantly from 574.55 ? 610.52 mg. chlorpromazine equivalent in 1988 to 471.53 ? 422.39 mg. chlorpromazine equivalent in 1998. One hundred and six patients (53.3 %) received decreasing doses, 12 patients (6.0 %) maintained stable doses and 81 patients (40.7 %) received increasing doses. Interestingly, more than seventy percent of the patients received a daily dose lower than 600 mg. chlorpromazine equivalent. Age, sex and number of admissions are factors influencing antipsychotic dosing patterns. Conclusion Most of chronic schizophrenic patients received decreasing doses within a 10 year period. The results of this study will be statistical basis for the development of standard treatment guideline for chronic schizophrenic patients in Thailand.
