รายละเอียด / Details:

Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI) is a set of personality questionnaires, developed by CR Cloninger in 1994. It is a battery of tests designed to assess differences between people in seven basic dimensions of temperament and character. The four measured temperament dimensions are Novelty Seeking, Harm Avoidance, Reward Dependence and Persistence while the three character dimensions are Self-Directedness, Cooperativeness, and Self-Transcendence. This instrument has been translated into several languages and widely used in many countries. The author has translated TCI into Thai language. Content validity of the Thai version was performed and reliability tested with the reliability coefficient = 0.85 (Cronbach alpha) and 0.76 (test-retest), suggestive of highly reliable instrument. The author has used the personality questionnaires with Siriraj medical students, consisted of 581 male and 567 female with the total number of 1,148. Comparison of TCI findings between Thai medical students and U.S. college students was analysed with independent t-test. There was significant difference in Novelty Seeking, Reward Dependence, Persistence and Cooperativeness (p ‹ .001); Harm Avoidance and Self-Transcendence (p < .01), mostly with higher score on the U.S. side with the exception of Harm Avoidance. For Siriraj medical students, the result showed higher score of Novelty Seeking, Reward Dependence and Cooperativeness in female but lower score on Persistence as compared to male. All the scores were significantly different at p < .001.
