To evaluate the results of the procedures of promoting community participation in caring for psychiatric patients in the community project. The study was carried out in 2002 by the Department of psychiatric Health, ministry of health. Thirty-eight provinces were involved in the study an din each province one community that had psychiatric patients were used. The CIPP Model was used for the evaluation. The personnel that carried out the study were 445 public health workers trained in the caring for Psychiatric Patients Network, 328 public health workers trained in activity techniques in General Public Caring for psychiatric patients, and 326 community leaders and general public who participated in the workshop for caring for psychiatric patients in the community. The simple random sampling method was used to randomly choose psychiatric patients in each community. In to total, 252 patients were chosen, materials used in the evaluation were evaluation forms, a knowledge assessment seminar, attitude assessments, general public participation assessments, activity organizing guideline assessments ways to evaluate psychiatric patients' conditions, analysis of information quality analysis and the t-paired test to test the significance of the percent average results. Most of the public health workers who trained in the workshop for caring for psychiatric patients in the community believed that the seminar was very useful in practice and they believed they gained knowledge from the seminar. The evaluation of the lectures' seminar of activity techniques indicated that a significant (p‹0.01) number of personnel who trained, learned a great deal. The majority believed that the seminar was either very useful of most useful, and that they could apply their learning into their work practices. From the evaluation of the participation of relatives and the community in caring for patients in the community, it was found that these people practiced follow-up undertook condition monitoring checked on continual taking of medication and body cleaning and encouraged patients which made the patients feel better and able to help themselves. The patients were able to care for themselves and were able to adjust better socially in the community.
