The study on absconding mental ill was made at Suansaranrom Hospital in Suratthani for the period of 6 months (1 Febtuary-31 July 1984). The total absconders were 255. Most of them (85.10%) were from opened ward and (92.55%) were diagnosed as schizophrenia. Thursday was the most popular day and the popular time was between 06.00 a.m. to 08.30 a,m, Only one case jumped out of the ward. The majority (25.49%) has notified being back home safely and the other (29.02%) were readmitted for treatment.
