The aims of this one group pre-experimental study is to determine efficiency, effectivensess, patients satisfaction comparing between patients who complete and dropout groups of outpatient receiving sixteen weeks psychosocial program (Matrix Program) service at suanprung psychiatric hospital chiang mai province. The sample group of this study were 69 amphetamine dependence patients and their families who attended outpatient service three times per week between April 2001 to March 2002. Matrix program outpatient and evaluation program were adapted from the Matrix Intensive outpatient program of University of California Los Angeles and modified by the mental health department and medical department composed of several sessions namely individual counseling, Early recovery skills group relapse prevention skills group family education group and social support group. The program was open group treatment conducted on the bases of group process learning participatory learning discussion and skills practice. The data were collected at the beginning of the program including demographic data families physical and mental health status and drug use behaviors then at one month for service, 3 and 4 month for patients satisfaction and subsequent evaluation at 1, 4, 8 and 12 months. The data were analyzed using frequency percentage mean standard deviation and independent t-test. Regarding the effectiveness of the program it was found that 10 patients 14.49% had completed program, 50.73% and 20.29% of the sample had dropped out before completing the program and referred to there services consecutively. Accessibility and promptness to get into service was rated as moderately to highly satisfied level. Lag duration from first contact to the first appointment was 2.15 days. Among 10 patients who completed the program 80%, 83.33% and 100% had negative urine amphetamine test at the last visit before discharged from the program the first and forth month after program consecutively. Over all outcome of patients namely occupation, education family addict abuse planning for living daily life psychiatric legal and health problems were rated as moderate to good. Mean of global assessment of function had increases 17.07% from 55.98% before treatment to 66.05 after treatment which met the target of the mental health department. Regarding patients satisfaction of service it was found that the patients who attended program felt satisfied with the, quality of service duration and components of the program at moderate to much satisfied. Mean of overall satisfaction for service is 4.3 that less than target of the mental health department (4.5).
