The purpose of this study were to study in two categories. The first was to assess knowledge about self-care of schizophrenic patient attitude for psychiatric illnesses and communicative behavior between schizophrenic patients and their family member. The second was to explore factors that on may have influence in effective communicative of between schizophrenia patient and their family member. The subjects of this study consisted of 300 families that included 300 patients and 300 their family members who were followed up for continuous treatment at Out patients Department of Suansaranrom Hospital. The questionnaire was revealing general data, The knowledge, attitude and practice component in taking care of schizophrenic patients at home and communicative behavior in family. For statistical method, Percentage and stepwise multiple regression analysis used. The result was found that 40.4% of schizophrenia patient had moderate level of self care knowledge, 58.7% of them had medium level of attitude about psychotic illness. 52.0 had low level of communicative behavior in family, Factor that influenced communicative behaviors of schizophrenic patients were knowledge of self-care at home, readmission rate, marital status, a and occupation which could explain 13 percentage of the variance of the communicative behaviors (p‹0.05) 55.0% of family members had high level of caring patient knowledge, 59% of them had medium level of attitude about psychotic illness and 76.3% of them had low level of communicative behavior in family. Factor that influenced communicative behaviors of their family member were caring patient knowledge, attitude for psychotic illness and program of teaching the patient care at home which could explain 17 percentage if the variance of the communicative behaviors (p<0.05) The result suggests that nurse should provide the knowledge about self-care, home care program and skill training to schizophrenic patients and their family members. They should also give handbook of efficient communication for schizophrenic patients and their family members, including promotion and support self-care program and efficient communication for the them. Any-way there should be following studies in the future.
