แหล่งที่มา/Source: Journal of The Psychiatric Association of Thailand, Vol. 44 No.4 October-December 1999; P 329-343.

รายละเอียด / Details:

The prevalence of suicidal ideation and attitude towards about suicide was surveyed in 148 people attending Health Education Seminar at Siriraj Hospital. The questionnaires were constructed on the Shneidman’s concepts about the myth about suicide. Descriptive statistic was applied. The result of this study shows that prevalence of suicidal ideation was 17.6 %. All of the 3 groups (people without suicidal idea, people who used to have suicidal idea and people who still have suicidal idea) have the same idea that people who want to commit suicide will never tell other people about their ideas and they are not sure about how to approach people who have suffering. While people in the first group hold negative attitude about suicide and they agree that committed suicide was not the way to cope with crises. On the contrary, people who still had suicidal idea hold positive attitude and viewed that for them, suicide is the way to getting out the problem. Efforts should be taken to give public education about what are facts and myth about suicide. Appropriate intervention should be included in the program.
