The purpose of this study was to primarily assess the application of the matrix program and the satisfaction of the clients from December 2001 to December 2002. The samples were amphetamine dependents and abusers voluntarily attending the intensive treatment program for 4 months. The rehabilitation was followed up after a year of the program. There were 55 and 54 subjects in the two study groups, of which 74.6 and 94.4 percent completed this 16-week intensive treatment program respectively. The subjects participated in group discussions, and were interviewed to review their behaviour on drug use and way of life; and their satisfacion on the matrix program, They were followed up at the end of the year. Qualitative analysis of amphetamine in urine specimens collected from the subjects were employed to assess drug abstinence. The results were reported in percent, mean and standard deviations. After the 16- week program, the mean score of the way of life of the two groups both on the overall and the sub-set scales were at good level (x = 3.9, SD = ?.? and x = 3.7, SD = 0.5). The satisfaction of the clients were reportedly excellent and good (x = 4.5, SD = 0.8 and x = 3.6, SD = 0.6). In following up, only 58.2 and 66.7 percent of the subjcets could be located, the rest had moved. The amphetamine abstinences were maintained in 38.2 and 44.4 percent of the two groups respectively. While the abuse was less intense in 20.0 and 22.2 percent, the problem is still critical and further improvements may be appropriate.
