An Intervention study of alcohol dependent patients by Motivational Enhancement Therapy. The objective of the study focuses on the effective of MET to stopping alcohol drinking. Methods: The subjects were alcohol dependents. Whom admitted between 1st July to 31th December 2006 and received at least 1 week from detoxification. There were 80 patients received MET program completely, three session in three weeks, each session lasting 45-60 minutes. After treatment follow up at two weeks, the first, the second and the third months, respectively. The result from the study show that 80 patients 75 males and 5 females received the program completely, average 42.11 years old, the starting age of alcohol consumption less than 20 year old was 62.5%, total of drinking more than 10 years old was 48.75%, had drug abuse history was 57.5%. After three months follow up, the remission rate was 37.5% relapse rate was 45.5% and loss to follow up was 20%. The result of statistical analyzed was found factor had significantly related to the remission at the level 0.05 was female (OR=2.36, 95% CI=1.75-3.18, p=0.02), whom starting age of alcohol consumption less than 20 years old (OR=4.798, 95% CI=1.66-13.90, P=0.01), whom no smoking (OR=3.40, 95% CI=1.17-9.86, P=0.02). Conclusion: The result of MET effective for stopping the amount of alcohol drinking in three months.
