Depression is a significant problem that effects mental health. In addition, depression often causes suicide. Thus, assessment and screening for depression should be enhanced in order to give better comprehensive care and intervention for the persons with suicidal attempted. This descriptive study aimed to examine the level of depression among 76 persons with suicidal attempted persons at Fang Hospital Chiang Mai Province. The study instrument was Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-1A)(Beck, 1967), a questionnaire which translated to Thai by Mookda Sriyong (1979). The reliability of this instrument was obtained by Cronbach alpha coefficient was 0.92 Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics. The results revealed that 45.57 % of suicidal attempted persons at Fang Hospital Chiang Mai Province, had depression from minimal level to severe level. Within this group, it was found that 20.25 % were at minimal depression, 2.53 % were at mild-moderate depression, 8.86 % were at moderate-severe depression and 13.93 % were at severe level. The findings of this study could be applicable as preliminary data to plan for intervention to decrease depression among persons with suicidal attempted at Fang Hospital Chiang Mai Province, especially those who reported severe and moderate-severe level of depression. These groups need referral for further appropriate treatment and prevention for suicidal attempt.
