Psychosocial rehabilitation in Thailand has been initiated since the period of Professor Dr. Phon Sangsingeaw, the Father of Thai Psychiatry. Occupational therapy unit provided the model of service. In the beginning, these activities were used to occupy time of hospitalized patients and only occupational therapist assistants were in charged of this unit. Most of activities based on vocational pattern due to the background of personnel. Later, occupational therapy was applied in scientific approach under concept of “Bio-psychosocial model”, after in service training was implemented. The multi-disciplinary team was included to carry out psychosocial rehabilitation. The model from New Life Psychiatric Association, Hong Kong was adopted to implement in Psychiatric hospitals according to Thai culture. At present the : Occupation Performance” is applied in psychosocial rehabilitation and more oriented to be in vocational rehabilitation.
