Alcohol drinking is both problematic and prevalent in adolescents. Approximately 40 and 40.8 percents of adolescents drink alcohol amp hoe Chiangklang and chinwag Nan respectively. Even though Chiangklang hospital together with other stakeholders had campaigned to reduce alcohol use in every festival, alcohol drinking still show me increasing trend. The purposes of this qualitative study were to explain drinking behavior, factors influencing alcohol use and recommend measures to curb this alcohol-use problem. The study employed qualitative method approach. Subject participants included adolescents with‹18 years of age drinking at least once a week or 12 times per years on average and purposively selected from 9 villages in amp hoe Chiangklang and other related group Including parents, community leaders,, teachers, policemen and public health workers. In-depth interviews were carried out in 8 adolescents and 14 of the related group. Ten focus group discussions were conducted in adolescent group (5) and the other related group (5) .The content analysis was independently performed by a few authors. The results were then triangulated and compared and compared between different sources and data collection methods. The study was conducted during April-November 2006. It was found that the adolescents had the ir first drink in the primary school unintentionally Friends showed the greatest influence in drinking. The greatest chances for drinking were heightened during festivals. The most favorite places for drinking was friends’ house. The causes and factors of drinking behavior were 1) imitating adults’ drinking behavior;2) family problems and weak family tie; 3) drinking to cope with sorrow, loneliness and stress; 4) enhancing friendship interaction; 5) Under the influence of role model and group norms; 6) free access to alcohol. The result of this study suggested strategic planning for control of alcohol use as follows: 1) decreasing value of alcohol in social events for example not using alcohol as a gift or forbidding alcohol use in certain occasions, especially funeral and religious events; 2) developing life skill and providing pubic space for other youth activites;3) Inter-and intra sect oral co operation in setting up good models. After disseminating the research findings to communities, the communities participated and developed their own strategic planning for the reduction of alcohol use. Cones queenly the communities has launched variety of activities such as alcohol use forbidden in sports, funerals, warming family project and youth club for health activities.
