Objective: to find the cut-off point, sensitivity and specificity of the Thai version of General Health Questionnaire-12 (GHQ-12) after Tsunami disaster. Materials and Methods: Two hundred and forty-one survivors from the Tsunami disaster in Takuapa district, Phangnga province were recruited by accidental sampling and interviewed by using GHQ-12 between 6-10 January 2005. Results: At the cut-off point of 4, GHQ-12 yielded the sensitivity and specificity in screening for psychiatric problems after tsunami at 80.70% and 80.10% respectively. Conclusion: GHQ-12 can be used as a screening test for psychaitric problems in the Tsunami exposed population and may be applied to other disasters with comparable timing and severity.
