Objective: To study the coping strategy of children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), including the features of coping strategy and aspects, which influence the coping strategy by observing the relation ship of social support, biological factor, aspects of the parents, perception of the illness, children’s response of the illness, psychosocial and cognitive development. Methods: This was a field study using triangular method by applying the qualitative approach. Qualitative data collection was performed cross section ally. The subjects were children with age 3 to ‹6 years old who have induction and maintenance phases with their parents, children with age 6-12 years old who have induction and maintenance phase with their parents. Results: The children have variety coping strategies. They have emotional focused coping and problem focused coping strategy. Younger children tend to show emotional focused coping than the order that show retionalization and sublimation. The order children have significant problem focused coping in cured seeking behavior. Children perception of the illness influenced their cured seeking behavior. Social support and coping strategy of the parents influenced the strategy coping of the children. Strategy coping from mothers was more significant than fathers. Temperament of the children also influenced the children to perceive and respond to the illness. Cognitive and psychosocial development of the children influenced the coping strategy to handle the illness. The parents’ effective coping behaviors increased along with the rise of spirituality. The presence of the child in family who suffers from ALL can cause not only problems that is directly related to the problem of the treatment, but also the complexities impact, which include the change of the parental model of the children, whether or not they were ill; the change in the interaction between husband and wife; the change of interaction model of big family; and school problems of the children, family financial and works. Conclusion: Children’s temperament significantly influenced coping strategy. Age and cognitive development influenced the children perception of the illness and the treatment. Younger children (early childhood) have acting out and regression to lower level of the developmental period. Social support from parents, big family, medical staff and others children, who suffered from ALL, influenced the coping strategy of the children. ALL has a big impact to the family life. The problem focused coping is not better than emotional focused coping but, in person who less adept just use emotional focused coping.
