Objective: To find a correlation between mental disorder and family relation in adolescent from poor urban community. Methods: The study was cross sectional. The subjects of this study were adolescents from poor urban community in Kelurahan Cipinang Besar Selatan, East Jakarta. The samples were taken by rapid survey method. They were adolescents between 13-19 years old who live with their family in poor urban area and agreed to become a respondent for this study. They were interviewed using MINI KID (Mini-International Neuropsychiatric Interviewkid) instrument to diagnose the mental disorder. To evaluate the family relation, they filled FACES (Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scale) IV questionnaire. Results: Among 210 respondents, 126 (60.00%) respondents are known to have mental disorders while other 84 (40.00%) are healthy. We also found healthy family functioning on 13 (6.19%) respondents compared to 197 (93.81%) unhealthy family functioning. Statistical analysis for correlation on family relation and mental disorder is p=0.22. Specific phobia (49) respondents, 23.33%) is the majority diagnosis found, followed with obsessive compulsive disorder (30.14.29%) and oppositional deviant disorder (30.14.29%). Conclusion: There is no correlation between mental disorder and family relation in adolescent from poor urban community.
