รายละเอียด / Details:

Objective: To examine the prevalence and risk factors of postpartum depression at 6 weeks after the labor in Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital (MNCMH). Methods: Women gave birth in and return to receive 6-week after labor care in MNCMH were invited to participate in this study. Data collection included demographic data, obstetric and labor details. The Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale, Thai version with the cut-point of 12/13 was used to assess postpartum depression. Stress and quality of life were evaluated by 10-item Perceive Stress Scale (PSS) Thai version, and WHOQOL-BREF-THAI, respectively. Data were calculated for the percentages, means, and standard deviations. Fisher’s exact and Student-t tests were used for statistical inference. Results: One hundred fifty-seven women giving birth 6 weeks prior to assessment participated in this study. The point prevalence rate of postpartum depression was 5.7%. Factors significantly increasing the risks for postpartum depression included obstetric complications within peri-partum periods, health problems of the newborns, life stress, and marital satisfaction. The quality of life of depressed mothers was significantly lower than that of non depressed mothers in physical health, psychological, and environmental domains. Conclusion: The prevalence rate of postpartum depression in MNCMH is lower than those found in Western countries. The risk factors are not much different. Postpartum depression is associated with a lower level of quality of life.
