The purpose of this descriptive study was to investigate the mental health statusof diabetes mellitus patients in Dararussamee hospital,Chiang Mai Province. The studygroup included 64 diabetic patients that came to visit diabetic clinic (Out Patient Department ) Dararussamee hospital by random sampling. The study instrument was aquestionaire consisting of two parts, a Demographic Data Profile and aThai mentalHealth Indicators, completed version developed by Apichai Mongkol, etal.,(2004) Datas were analyzed by descriptive statistics. Theresults revealed that 59.38%, 37.5% and 3.16% of diabetes mellitus patientshad mental health scores at lower than, equal to , and better than normal levels, respectively. Considering each dimension of mental health status, 76.72and 64.44percent of subjects had a lower level than normal group of mental health status in the mental state and the mental capacity dimensions, respectively. The results of this study indicated that the diabetes mellitus patients were at high risk to mental health problems. A risk reduction and severity of mental health problems prevention program should be continually in order to support these patients.
