แหล่งที่มา/Source: Journal of The Psychiatric Association of Thailand, Vol. 42 No.2 April-June 1997, P 77-87.

รายละเอียด / Details:

The prevalence of suicidal ideation was surveyed in a stratified random sample of 826 adults in Nonchok district, Bangkok, Thailand. One month prevalence of suicidal ideation was 5.3 per cent. Factor found to be correlated with increased suicidal ideation were being female (OR 2.05), non-islamic (OR 1.83), mental disorders (OR 14.02), low income group (OR 2.83), family conflict (OR 3.54), health problems (OR 2.09-10.58), negative life events in the past year such as: having family member who is psychiatrically ill (OR 4.08), having family member who has serious physical illness (OR 5.01), death of family member (OR 3.41), and other current life stress such as: marital conflict (OR 2.68), conflicts with other family members (OR 3.73) and conflicts with friends (OR 4.21). Factors that best predicted suicidal ideation when analyzed by multilogistic regression were mental disorders (OR 3.69), death of family member in the past year (OR 1.92), general health problems (OR 1.72), and conflicts with friends (OR 1.75). The results of this study show that suicidal ideation is a common and important mental health problem, and efforts should be taken to give public education about interventions for people with suicidal ideation. Health-care workers should also be encouraged to check about suicidal ideation in patients who may have this problem.
