The mental health of three hundred and fourty one medical students in academic year of 1996-1997 at Srinakharinwirot University were assessed. By using General Health Questionnaire (GHQ 60), we found the prevalence of emotional disturbance in this group was 84 cases (24.63 per cent). The highest prevalence was confined to the second year students (23 cases, 45.1 per cent). The statistically significant causes are financial problem, dormitory problem, having hobby, their parent relationships, their teacher relationships, their lack of closed friends and their classmate relationships (p less than 0.05).
