In revising the vocational program at Rajanukul Hospital a curriculum was needed which would both prepare students for the reality of their adult lives in their various communities around Thailand and enhance their life opportunities. Some curriculums and task analysis were available but were found to be mostly valuable as resource material, as they were generally either culturally or otherwise inappropriate. Six subject areas were developed as part of the curriculum. Several guidelines were most helpful in the development of the curriculum. The curriculum has been helpful in meeting student training needs: In the future, the program needs to be expanded to include community-based work experience, consistent with opportunities that exist for the student in his home community. Also, it has become clear that parent education needs to be undertaken to a much greater extent.
