รายละเอียด / Details:

This research article is based on the analysis and synthesis of important research studies about child rearings in Thai socio-cultural context. Its objective is to point out what are taking place in the socialization practices in Thai families. In the past, it was found that Thai families inculcated in their children certain significant values namely nonaggression, honesty, generosity, respect for authority and seniority, and propriety of etiquette. The pattern of child rearings was considered to be widely permissive. Thai parents were lenient with their children in almost every aspect except sex role behavior. At present, the child rearings pattern is still permissive. The parents are now more lenient with the child in the aspects if sex role behavior and propriety of etiquette. The Thai children and youth in to-day society accordingly reveal themselves as more aggressive and assertive type of personality. In addition, main results from the only one international longitudinal study project on preschooler services reveal that Thai parents’ main expectation for their children are self-sufficiency, language ability, and preacademic skills. However, they put less importance to self-assessment ability of the child which actually is considered to be very significant in helping develop the child to be person of quality when he or she grows up.
