The objective of this survey was to understand pattern of psychotropic drug prescription and its related problems in primary care settings. The authors sent 1,500 questionnaires to general practitioners in primary care settings around Thailand which 617 (41.13%) questionnaires were responded. Most common of drug prescription was anxiolytics, the highest use was benzodiazepine 93.8%. Second rank was antidepressant, the highest was amitriptyline 96.7%. Antipsychotic drugs and lithium were hardly prescribed. Dosage of psychotropic drugs that prescribed by general practitioners may not adequate to treat mental disorders. Many factors that may caused this pattern were discussed.
