Psychosocial nursing practices to reduce fear in preschool-age child receiving venipuncture were very important. A qualitative research was used by observing eight real situations and interviewing eight pediatric registered nurses and one nurse students about the reasons of their nursing practices. The finding was that pediatric registered nurses and nurse student used only one strategy of psychosocial nursing practices, verbal communication, to reduce fear in preschool-age child during venipuncture. they did not incorporate therapeutic or distractive plays into their practices. As a result, the degrees of children's fear were at moderate to severe levels. For the reasons of their practices, they did not know how to use therapeutic play and they were neveer used distractive plays into their practices. The researchers suggested the way how to do psychosocial nursing practices to reduce fear in preschool-age child receiving venipuncture and suggested for providing toys and materials of therapeutic and distractive plays in every preschool-age child's wards. For nursing educators should research more on teaching-learning models focusing the therapeutic or distractive plays as well as intergrating them into students' nursing practice.
