แหล่งที่มา/Source: Journal of The Psychiatric Association of Thailand, Vol. 45 No.3 July-September 2000, P 261-270

รายละเอียด / Details:

Objective To investigate the prevalence of mental disorders among patients receiving primary health care and the proportion of patients with mental disorders that were identified by their primary health care physicians. Method The sample consisted of 750 randomly selected adult patients attending the general practice clinic in Thammasat University Hospital. The mental disorder patients were detected by using the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28) and by primary health care physicians. Results According to the GHQ-28, 57 % of the sample population had a mental disorder, compared with 18 % of the sample population diagnosed by primary care providers. Only approximately one fourth of the patients with mental problems detected by the GHQ-28 could be identified by the physicians. Anxiety disorders were the most common given diagnoses. Conclusions The primary health care physicians had difficulties in recognizing their patients’ mental disorders, and a considerable proportion of the disorders remained unrecognized by them. Further study is needed to examine the causes of this problem.
