รายละเอียด / Details:

The objective of this study was to determine the stimulating substances being used in amphetamine (pep pills), seized in the upper part of northern Thailand, during October 1988 to September 1996, using thin layer chromatographic method. The type of dosage form was also investigated. Among 573 samples, Met amphetamine was the major one, following by met amphetamine mixed with ephedrine and only ephedrine, found in 390 samples (68. t%), 153 samples (26.7%) and 16 samples (2.7%),respectively. Blending with met amphetamine or ephedrine to increase addictive effect, the presence of heroin hydrochloride was also detected in 14 samples (2.4%). The other substances such as caffeine, theophylline were found to be mixed in the pills due to their additive effect. Most of the samples were in the form of tablet. This results revealed that met amphetamine is still the popular stimulant and pep pills are considered to be more dangerous than before due to the presence of heroin which cause highly addictive potency.
