A cross-sectional study was made to acquire information on the response of thai mothers and primary caretakers to the home-based child development record in order to determine its appropriateness as a tool for mothers. The HBCDR was administered by mothers and primary caretakers to a sample of 2,475 children aged two weeks to six years in rural and urban areas of the forur major geographical regions of thailand. The economies of 82.8 percent of these children's families were classified as adequate 6.3 percent as wealthy and 10 percent as inadequate. The specifications of demand for and pricing of the HBCDR were studied. Evaluation of the capability of mothers in performing developmental assessment found their accuracy ranged between65.2 and 97.7 percent. The sampled mothers had a positive attiude toward the HBCDR: 56.1 percent thought it was very useful and 41.3 percent said it was of some use. The prices they would pay for the HBCDR varied between 5 and 200 bahts, with 5-10 bahts preferred. Most mothers (84.3%) liked the HBCDR in green: a majority (83.6 percent) wanted it to be A4 size; almost half recommended larger print be used. The mothers stated they would like to have consultation on child development occasionally. Conclusions and recommendation are made for further study and intervention program.
