Depression is one of major problems with sever consequences. Many end up by s. The objective of this study was to study the relationship between depression and the coping styles used by the Thai subjects. The samples were population selected by multistage randomized sampling from 12 public health regions of Thailand. The instruments used in this study comprised questionaires for general demographic data. Beck's Depressive Inventory and Jalowice Coping Scale. The result were found that from sample of 7}432 persons 66.2% were fema;e the mean ages was 38.3 years old. On the depression scale 38.1% had depression at the level that needed special intervention 36.2% were still in normal range and 25.7% had minimal deviation from normal ,evel. The most common coping styles related with sever depression were emotive 72.8% evasive 71.8% and fatalistic 64.7% respectively. Confrintative coping style was style had no relationship with depression P=0.05. On summary one-third of thai people had depression that needed intervention to prevent them from becoming severe mental disorders. Specific coping styles was found to relate with minimal level of depression. People in general should be informed for their own benefit.
