In Logotherapy Ourpose-in-Life scales have been used to measure the person's sense of the purpose and meaning of life. The psychometric assessment of the scales has been conducted in American and Hong Kong citizens but not yet I Thais. The purposes of this study were to develop a Thai version of Purpose-in-Life scales and to examine the mean purpose-in-Life scores of Thai undergraduaate students. The students were randomly selected to fill out the tests between January 1 and February 15, 2000. The tests were comprised the Thai version of the Purpose in life (PIL) and the Seeking of Noetic Goals SONG scales. The results showed that 1}320 undergraduate students with the mean age of 20.2+1.5 completed the tests. Por item analysis most items PIL except items 14 and 15 and SONG except items 2,3 and 19 were significantly correlated with the total items of each scale. Reliability analysis expressed as Crohbach's alpha coefficients showed that PIL and SONG in the Thai version were reliable I.e. 0.84 and 0.78 respectively. The principal component factor analysis with varimax rotation was used to explore the factor structure of the Purpose-in-Life scales. The five facters of PIL and SONG items the eight factors accounted for 48.3% of the total variance. The mean purpose-in-Life scores of Thai undergraduate students for PIL and SONG were 102.8+16.3 cnd 86+13.8 respectively. The Thai version of the Purpose-in-Life scales PIL and SONG were valid and reliable to assess the purpose and meaning of life in Thai underagraduate students. Further studies are required to develop a Thai version of the combined PIL and SONG to improve its test efficiency.
