An analysis of child abuse cases, who participated in the interagency child abuse investigation and care pilot project of Thammasat Hospital was conducted. The aim was to present the management and case provided for the cases and to investigate biopsychosocial factors which were likely to the occurrence of the problem. Data were obtained by indepth interview with the children and their family, and from the minute of the team meetings. The cases included 12 female and 2 male. Most cases were sexually abused (10 cases) and the remaining were physically abused 4 cases. The children age ranged between 2 months and 14 years. Most abusers lived with the child victims and had a history of drug and substance use, particularly amphetamines and alcohol. All children had low socioeconomic backgrounds, poor relationships and negative communication within the family, and serveral family members suffering emotional problems. A variety of cases offered by the team staff consisted to supportive psychotherapy, family psychieducationm behavioral modification and pharmacotherapy. Some cases also received financial assistance and temporary accommodation. Attempts were made to seek foster homes, for children in need. Child abuse problem has a severe detrimental impact on Thai society. Many factors are involved, and primarily associated with the family context. Prevention at all three levels (primary, secondary, and tertiary) is the best strategy to deal with the problem.
