แหล่งที่มา/Source: Journal of The Psychiatric Association of Thailand, Vol. 2, No.1, January 1957, Page 1-15

รายละเอียด / Details:

This report is a crude and preliminary attempt at studying suicide in Thailand. It concerns only suicide and attented suicide during the year 1956. The incidence of suicide is 0.23 per 100,000 population as compare with Britain's 11.3. The most used means are hanging and shooting and the highest incidence is found in the 3rd decade 20-29 of life. The motives for suicide could not be thoroughly studied but appear to be the quarrelling in family circles, including frustrated love affairs, Among the total 55 cases of suicide studied, there are confirmed cases of schizophrenia and one paraphrenia. About 78% of suicide took place in Bangkok. Only 8 cases of attempted suicides are available for study. The auther agrees with Strauss that this form of behaviour is merely hysterical. This report is not meant tobe aperfect academic thesis on suicide but rather a frail attempt to arouse interest in this importamt but much neglected subject.
